There's no shortage of French restaurants in Edinburgh, and this one hits the spot. Fred Berkmiller runs it with an expert hand, working in close contact with Scottish producers to source ducks, rabbits, chickens and seafood, which he adds with a distinctly Scottish touch. The idea is to exploit the local terroir. The cooking is perfect and there's nothing to complain about.

L'Escargot Bleu is a French restaurant on Broughton Street in Edinburgh New Town, a lively, vibrant and trendy area.
The restaurant opened in January 2009. Owners Betty Jourjon and Frédéric Berkmiller rethought the brasserie concept by combining their two passions, the art of French cuisine and the art of the table.
Indeed, the concept is "a French twist using the best of Scotland", hence the English expression "French Twist Using the Best of Scotland". We might add that L'Escargot Bleu works with over 45 suppliers from Scotland and France.

L'escargot bleu est une expérience étonnamment authentique, avec un personnel dévoué et amical. Tout y est spectaculaire et la carte est bien conçue pour que chacun y trouve son compte. Les plats qui m'ont le plus marqué sont la crème brûlée et l'escargot.
