CITADELLE

Over 6 km long, this imposing wall surrounding the old town was built in the late th century under Boris Moussorgsky. She is in brick, since at the time of her édification construction banning stone constructions was still in force. Of the 38 towers that jalonnaient the enclosure, only 17 remain. Many parts of the wall itself have been rebuilt; the eastern part is best preserved.
