TEMNITSA

A very good upscale restaurant in the fortress. The setting is breathtaking: the original walls have been preserved, the décor oscillating between modern and old pays a beautiful tribute to the golden age of Smolensk, and the terrace offers a superb view of the Dnieper. The cuisine is Russian and of excellent quality, the dishes are refined. In Russian, temnitsa means a jail, a place where it is dark in the dungeon. But you wish you'd never have to leave the comfortable armchairs and the subdued atmosphere of that temnitsa!
