CHURCH OF RESURRECTION ON DEBRA

According to legend, the merchant Issakiev sent linen canvases to England in exchange for paint. One day he sent such a beautiful shipment of linen that he received a barrel full of gold as a reward. He decided to devote this wealth to the building of a church to thank God. Thus the Church of the Resurrection was born. The abundance of blue in the icons, a rare colour derived from indigo, which was said to be as expensive as gold, seems to corroborate this version of the facts.
