Near Kamenskoye, it is rather a city that stands on the banks of the river Yukhat. Bolshoye Selo once lived by trade; the river flows into the Volga opposite Myshkin, and it was here that tribute was levied on the merchants. The centre of Bolshoye Selo is the square of the Church of St. Peter and Paul (1760). Shopping galleries were built on its premises. On the other bank, one can still see the small church Sainte-Parascève du Vendredi (Paraskevi Pïatnitsy) from 1747 with a bell tower. The village was part of the estate of Mstislavski and was the capital of a small principality in the 15th century
