MONASTERY OF THE TRINITY OF SAINT DANIIL

This monastery was founded in 1508 at the request of the Grand Prince Basil III. Seriously damaged during the time of the Troubles (early 17th century), it was restored in the second half of the 17th century, thanks to the boyar Bariatinski. Once one of the richest in the city, the monastery was closed in 1923 and reopened in 1995. The Trinity Cathedral was built between 1530 and 1932 by Basil III, on the occasion of the birth of his son Ivan, the future Ivan the Terrible.
