When it was founded in 1152, Pereslavl-Zalesski was destined to be the capital of Russia. At one time it was a substantial city, much larger than Moscow. Today, it is known as the birthplace of Alexander Nevsky and the Russian Navy, as it was here that Peter the Great built the first ship of the Russian fleet with his own hands! The city is compared to Venice, because water is an inseparable element of everyday life. Its lake Plecheyevo has been feeding, transporting and enchanting its residents for centuries. For all these reasons, the city is imbued with a unique atmosphere of a harbour city at the coast
