In the small square in front of the cathedral, there is a miraculous fountain in the shape of an Orthodox cross, topped by a small roof, in a pseudo-Russian style of the 19th century, which is in rather bad taste. The spring is located in the chapel and this "drift" fountain has a practical side by avoiding the jostling inside the chapel. The Russians rush there to fill their bottles with this holy water but you will be warned: the water is no more drinkable there than in the rest of Russia.

Eau de la Fontaine
Bonjour, Lors de mon premier voyage en Russie à l'été 2007, je me suis laissé conté cette histoire de source miraculeuse tant les autochtones étaient venus nombreux : j'ai bu l'eau à la fontaine même tant il faisait chaud et l'eau était fraîche, et j'ai achetée une gourde en plastique vendue sur place aux touristes, je l'ai remplie de 20cl environ. Je n'y ai pas bu afin de ne pas altérer l'eau avec ma salive. Gardée en température ambiante et hors lumière dans un placard, en cette fin d'année 2020 elle ne présente ni moisissure, ni dépôt . Cependant je n'ose pas la boire. Je la conserve comme une relique en mémoire de "ma découverte" de ce pays magnifique riche en Histoires, en architectures, en Arts, en civilisations : certainement un des pays dont l'Histoire mérite qu'on s'y arrête, qui ne renie pas son passé, et qui est résolument tourné vers son avenir.
