This Norman fortified castle was one of the most important in the Abergavenny seigneury, and also served as a residence for visiting kings. Built on the foundations of a vanished 11th-century structure, today's castle was constructed between the 13th and 14th centuries, when it became the property of the Hastings family. The museum inside boasts a fine collection of archeological finds dating back to prehistoric and Roman times.
