The charming little town of Obi, located south of Miyazaki, is a 16th century castle town. The castle was built in 1587; only the walls remain. The lord of Obi was forced to leave the castle in 1869. He then decided to reside in the Yōshōkan House. Obi is away from the traditional circuits, hence the quietness of the small alleys and their numerous stalls which are not unlike those of Kyōto. There are also residences and gardens to visit for free. You can travel around the city by rickshaw.
