The cliffs make these islands spectacular and it seems logical that successive powers have thought of them to exile political prisoners deemed too dangerous. The largest of the islands is called Dogo and the group of islets, the Dozen Islands. On Dozen, the Oki-Kuniga coast of Nishino-shima island is quite breathtaking. On the large island of Dogo, you can watch buffalo fights during the summer. Ferries leave from Shichirui or Sakaiminato. Take a bus from Matsue bus terminal to Shichirui (40 min. ride), then take a ferry: 2h30. (www.oki-kisen.co.jp/). There are also flights to Osaka and Izumo.
