Five kilometers south of Matsue is the hill of Fūdoki-no-Oka, an archaeological site from the 1st century AD. Pieces found during excavations are on display at the Fūdoki-no-Oka Archaeological Museum (open from 9am to 5pm. Admission: ¥200). Not far away, you can see the Okadayama Mound, an ancient tomb. The Yaegaki Jinja shrine is the haven of the Susano'o and Kushinada-Hime deities. The painted kami and other deities date back to the 12th century. Kamosu Jinja is the oldest shrine of taisha style. The Honden dates back to 1346. You can get there by bus from Matsue: get off at the Fûdoki-no-Oka Iriguchi or Yaegaki-danchi Iriguchi stop.
