Built in 1608 and then destroyed a few years later, Iwakuni Castle and its beautiful white walls were rebuilt in 1960 in an architectural style called "Momoyama Nanban-zukuri" to attract tourists to the city. The top floor of the castle has been transformed into an observation deck, from which you can view the cityscape of Iwakuni. There is a funicular railway, which is a 5-minute walk from the castle, so you don't have to walk there.
