AWANOYU RYOKAN

Opened in 1912, overlooking Shirahone Onsen, this ryokan is a must. The public baths are famous and the rooms very comfortable. The latter offer a nice setting for a night or two. You feel peaceful and relaxed. The outdoor baths are magical, especially when the snow falls on the surrounding nature. We can only be dithyrambic about the meal too, which takes us on a journey through the flavours of the region. Often full and unfortunately quite expensive, but without question the best address.
