MOUNTAIN IWAKI
A composite volcano peaking at 1,625 m, Mount Iwaki dominates the south-western Tsugaru plain. A sacred mountain for the Ainu people, it is distinguished by its conical shape with three peaks and two volcanic craters at the main summit. Classified as a national park in 1975, it is home to a unique primula that blooms every summer near the ninth station. From the summit, views extend as far as Matsumaezaki in Hokkaido, embracing the Hakkoda mountains, the Tsugaru peninsula and the shores of Ajigasawa. Numerous hiking trails invite you to discover its majestic landscapes.
