SENSHU PARK
The park is famous for its cherry trees and azaleas, which add color to the landscape in spring. It occupies the former site of Kubota Castle, erected in 733 to resist the Ebisu. Of the original castle (1603), only a few ruins remain, with the exception of a reconstruction of the north tower, the Ōsumi Yagura. The park is also home to the Akita Hachiman shrine, dedicated to Yoshino Satake (1570-1633). In April, the cherry blossom attracts visitors: the place is one of Japan's 100 most beautiful sites for admiring sakura(hanami).
