JOSHITEI

The Joshitei is the garden of the Satake clan's villa in the ancient Akita estate. It was first built during the Genroku period (1688-1704). It was once a famous garden in the Tohoku region. It served not only as a villa for the feudal lord, but also as a meeting place for many writers and artists. Restoration work was undertaken in 2014 based on the remains of the garden and historical documents. The Joshitei Garden reopened in 2017. A visit to this garden is pleasant and relaxing.
