At Mount Haguro, a magnificent 1.7 km sacred path to the summit winds its way between towering, century-old cedars, some 350 to 500 years old. The distant murmur of a stream accompanies the climb, accentuating its invigorating and spiritual quality. This trail, built between 1648 and 1661 under the direction of the 50th high priest Tenyu Betto, is also known as the "Way of Rebirth". A remarkable climb not to be missed.
