Located on the western shore of Lake Biwa, Ogoto Onsen is one of the most popular hot springs near Kyoto. It is believed to have been established by Saicho, the founder of the nearby Enryaku temple. With a history of over 1200 years and the quality of its water, which is highly alkaline with a pH of 9.0, Ogoto Onsen continues to attract visitors. Its water is said to have the virtue of relieving neuralgia, joint pain, chronic gastritis and skin problems. To enjoy it, visit one of Ogoto Onsen's nine ryokan .
