Mount Mitake-san (930 m) is a popular excursion for Japanese hikers. It is home to several species of trees and plants (azaleas, maples, cherry trees and cedars). Buses take passengers from Mitake Station to the Mitake-san cable car. The Mitake-jinja shrine can be reached in about 30 minutes' walk from the top of the cable car. One can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the Kantō. From the shrine, an approximately 3-hour hike leads to Otake-san (1,266 m).
