BOOTHILL GRAVEYARD

This cemetery contains some 250 graves, some of which are adorned with lunar epitaphs such as: "Hanged by mistake. He was right, we were wrong, but we hanged him anyway". A visit well worth the detour: in addition to several particularly funny descriptions, Boothill Graveyard offers a better insight into the city and the 1880s. For example, we learn that many people died in the mines, that many murders resulted from saloon brawls, and that suicide was a fairly "common" act at the time.
