Information website of the Shoshone Timbisha Indians occupying part of Death Valley
The Timbisha Shoshone people have inhabited this land since time immemorial. In 1863, the United States government and the Western Shoshone signed a treaty, known as the Treaty of Ruby Valley. In this treaty, the Western Shoshone agreed to end the war and allow the United States access to their territory, which stretches from southern California through Nevada and Utah to Idaho. In 2000, the signing of the Timbisha Homeland Act created the first tribal reservation within a national park.
