Can only enjoy the view if you’re having a meeting, eating at the restaurant or pay for an oceanfront room?!
I used to come here and enjoy the view while sitting at Catch restaurant with its oversized raw bar. They’ve gutted that restaurant and made it a meeting room so you can only enjoy the views if you’re having a meeting and they do not use that space otherwise. And for the restaurant you cannot just have a drink there. You have to have the sit down dinner. So from the bar, all you see is a hazy view of the light and the shade/drapes. It is an overall gorgeous room, but the beauty of this place is accentuate by the view which you cannot see . The restaurant is nice, but they really could have used the gorgeous views better.
The view from the pool is beautiful, but overall, I recommend their sister hotel sShutters next-door for its common space

I never wanted to leave my room or the pool— actually, I just never wanted to leave!

Had a ground floor room with a patio and also stayed in one of the penthouses. Both rooms were great, obviously the penthouse was superior. Service was great from all the staff. The only thing that we did not care for was the food, it just was not very good. Everything else was great!

We just stayed at the hotel. It was extremely difficult for me to get up on the very high bed. They provide a step stool. I have knee issues which caused more pain to get into the bed. The last night I slept in a rollaway for $750+ a night. The room is beautiful. We came back mid on Saturday and there wasn’t a place to park for valet. We pulled up in the second lane. The valet came out and informed us he couldn’t take the car from that lane. All he had to do was let us out and get in the car. Aervice in the cafe was above and beyond to please us. The front desk also went above and beyond. I had to dispute something with accounting. Still waitfir them.

Stayed from July 22nd through July 27, 2023

The Staff was wonderful. The establishment was flawless. So beautiful and relaxing. The door guys don't play around either, if they don't recognize you - you'll get a sideway look and they will approach you to make sure you belong there. Off-putting at first - I do look ghetto sometimes - But I like that. Felt safe!

My room was amazing. They upgraded me! My room was the bottom corner unit - in the back by the boardwalk with a huge beautiful patio and nice landscaping. I was running Solo on a business trip (my wife passed in May - she would be writing this).

The whirlpool was not working but was fixed the next day, by a guy that was so pleasant to deal with. I'm in the Service Industry, so I like talking and dealing with the staff.

I'm going back in March this year, to visit my Son and meet up with some Marine Buddies in San Diego. There is a comedian named Bino from NF in SD we all want to see.

My wife and I came here for coffee and a cake. I mentioned it was my wife’s birthday and Adrian (may have misspelled his name) said the dessert the brownie is what they suggest and it was delicious. The views are incredible and the service impeccable. Highly recommend this place.

We have a 4-night stay here with a 6 year old. We noticed that the kid at night would fall during sleep and the bed is set pretty high since this is a high end hotel. We came back the third day at night around 9:20 and requested to either move the bed against the wall or have some sort of solution, and was told that we can’t do that and we need to either request a rollaway bed or an extra blanket (excuse me???) and was told typically nobody requests this at 10 at night and this is usually done upon arrival, as if I’m making this a big deal having concerns for my kid’s safety.

The ignorance front desk displayed for guests’ safety is terrifying. I called a second time requesting to speak to the manager, and was blatantly redirected to the front desk (by a different manager) for the rollaway bed again then was told it comes with a fire hazard because I have a “two double rooms”, then I requested for further explanation then the front desk can’t explain it and redirected me back to the manager and I was told that having a rollaway bed in a double room is a fire hazard, then why was I offered this solution at all???? The final manager offered to send a rollaway bed for the night and lower the bed tomorrow, I took the offer.

I really had much better expectations for a 5 start hotel, not some condescending remarks on how ridiculous my requests are. These type of attitudes can only land lawsuits in the end. The service is so bad that I’d recommend anyone to stay away from this “5 star” hotel.

Edit: follow up:

We got a call to the room by manager Brian apologizing for the event from the previous night, and offering guardrails be installed on the bed instead of having the bed lowered. Not sure why this is such an inconvenience in the first place by the first front desk agent when it could all get solved by a guardrail. The concerns and solutions are not important here but the attitude the front desk had.

As Max had replied in this review that my problems are solved, I do hope future guests wouldn’t have to deal with such encounters. I revised my rating accordingly.

I stayed here with my husband over the new years break.

While the hotel is in a good location and provides most amenities expected by a a luxury hotel, there were a few things I did not anticipate: As someone who is aware of what is going on in the world in regards to environmental issues (particularly in California with immense water shortages, droughts etc) I was really surprised at how unsustainable everything is handled from an operational perspective in this particular hotel. They make 0 efforts to reduce their footprint as a huge hotel complex.

- Every drinking glass in the room comes wrapped in plastic, every singe day
- Every room is provided fresh ice in a plastic bag every single, evening even though no one requested this and most nights it just goes wasted. The best thing to do here would be to offer this upon request. Incredibly wasteful.
- the showers are old and therefore the water streams are super powerful, there is no way to optimize it for use. So much water just being wasted.
- They say if you put the paper card to ask for NO new sheets and towels on you bed, they wont change them for you to reduce their impact. Every time we put the card down, they still changed everything.
- Their room cleaning cadence is to change bed sheets and towels every single day. Why and how is that necessary?

People are paying a lot more attention to the sustainable practices of hotels and are choosing places that are leading with efforts here. Unfortunately Casa del Mar was the opposite of what we hoped to see, and is very backwards in their practices.

Stopped in while on our ten mile walk on the beach. We had drinks. While there was a great view of sunset...those tables had been closed. Only opened that area up after sundown.

One of the best hotels in Santa Monica. Cool bar too, very festive during the holidays and friendly staff as well.

Bon resto à Los Angeles. Tout à fait d'accord avec Petit Futé à propos de leur cuisine de fruits de mer. Vraiment excellente. Je me suis bien régalé.
