Infamously bad food that most locals shun. not sure why this place is still open except to serve the gentrified crowds of silver lake who don’t know better. I feel bad saying this because it’s a cute spot with friendly service but that cant make up for a watery pho and bland mains! Bahn mi is probably your best option.
I've never had such a bland pho broth in my entire life. It tasted more like water than broth, and completely did not have any of the richness of the beef or complexity of spices (if they even used any). The beef was also cut too thick and there was only one variety of cut.
The pork chop rice plate came completely cold as well.
Got pulled in by this place as I was walking by and thank gawd I did!! What a dope little spot, top notch vietnamese cuisine and the staff is so great - Melissa is a gem! For the plant-based homies, they have an extra menu just for us! So happy I had a dentist appointment next door, Gingergrass just became a regular in the rotation.
Disappointed with today's pick up order. The taro fries were cold and dry. The calamari had to taste - I ordered broken fried rice- one with beef and one with tofu. The beef was dry and overcook and both dishes were dry and had no flavor whatsoever. The peas and carrots were from a frozen bag.
I LOVE their vegetarian pho & imperial rolls! I love that they have vegan options! The imperial rolls are such a nice treat, crispy, crunchy & their sauces are full of good flavor!! I highly recommend!
If you like crispy fries, I recommend to try taro fries. It's kinda rare thing. They have also vegan dip if asked. It's on spicy side. We tried also chicken wings, they were also a bit hot but good. The vegan pho was very nice!
I’ve come here a few times, mostly for dinner, and it’s a great casual, quick spot. The outdoor patio is dog friendly. They have a few local beers on tap as well as a limited wine and cocktail list. They have a few vegetarian/vegan options, including the pho. The absolute best thing I’ve ordered was the Banh mi with grilled pork. The meat was outstanding, I’ll definitely be ordering again. Parking here is super easy - and it’s a quick stop after a stroll around the reservoir.
Warm service the day I visited. Pho is priced just below $15 if I remember correctly, which isn’t bad for the area, and quality of the food. The portion was a bit on the smaller side, but fine for lunch. Definitely a place I would come back to a recommend for a no-fuss Vietnamese experience. I opted for the chicken this time, because I remember their beef pho broth being a little heavier on the star anise.
The pork bahn mi sandwichhere was delicious. The baguette is very dense so it's very filling. The shrimp chips that it came were better than the taro fries upgrade which were starchy instead of crispy. There's a small indoor area and a few tables outside. It is located on a corner and there is a free parking lot that it shares with several other nearby businesses. Highly recommend if you love bahn mi's like I do.
Why did you remove the Vietnamese Vegan Coffee? That’s the main reason I would come often to Gingergrass. It’s cool that you guys added the vegan ube coffee, but don’t remove one of your best drinks for a new one when you can just have both of them. Was very disappointed today to go for that drink, and you removed it from the menu ????
Finally tried them for takeout and it was lackluster at best. The mushroom skewers (see photo) is two mushroom caps, which weren't cooked - basically a room temperature cap with some sauce. The crispy tofu was greasy - likely partly due to packaging, however, very much was falling apart and just tasted like oil. But the really confusing part was the cold broken dry white rice; it tasted like leftover rice that sat for hours and was maybe attempted to be reheated? Perhaps these items are better in person, but definitely avoid the takeout rice...
The pork chop rice plate came completely cold as well.
Great service
