RUSSIAN CHURCH OF SAINT NICOLAS

Of its Russian colonial past, Gyumri has hardly preserved any important churches, the places of worship being mainly intended to boost the morale of the troops, who had a garrison. The Orthodox chapel with its characteristic silvery bulb is located on the outskirts of the large central park to the north-west of the city. This park, now a place where the inhabitants walk, was once a cemetery and the chapel was mainly devoted to funeral rites.
