SOURP NSHAN CHURCH (HOLY SIGN)
church north of the central Vartanants square, used as a concert hall during Soviet times.
Sourp Nshan (Holy Sign) Church, is located north of the central Vartanants Square, at the corner of Roustaveli and Shaoumian Streets. Built in the 19th century, like the other churches in the city, it served as a concert hall in Soviet times when it was hit hard by the earthquake. After restoration, it regained its beautiful facade with blind arcatures typical of the Ani school, preceded by a bell tower and surmounted by a dome.
