It owes its creation to the vision that the patriarch Noah had of the top of Ararat where his ark dropped anchor, according to Genesis, after the Flood, watching over the plain of the Arabian Sea from Turkey, where it stretches out. Beyond the myth, Yerevan proudly boasts 2,800 years of history that has left few traces. An anonymous capital of the Persian and then Russian empires, it was promoted to capital of Soviet Armenia and then the Republic of Armenia, and has 1.2 million inhabitants. Marked by the plans of Soviet town planners and architects in its pink tufa facades, Yerevan has kept this sometimes pompous heritage cohabiting with innovative projects, in the spirit of a dynamic city, with Mediterranean charm and its terraces wrapped in greenery that call for discovering a country within reach of the capital.
