Paleontological park in Venosa, one of the best preserved European sites from the Middle Pleistocene period.
This Lower Paleolithic site is about 359,000 years old! It is one of the best preserved European sites from the Middle Pleistocene period. A remarkably preserved elephant skull has been found here, as well as a fragment of Homo erectus femur from about 300,000 years ago, carved stones and numerous remains of turtles and ducks (family geese, swans and ducks). Some of the material discovered is on display at the Archaeological Museum of Venosa.
