The country's most beautiful mosque is located in the heart of Pljevlja. Built between 1585 and 1594 on the orders of Hussein Pasha Boljanić, it has retained its original Ottoman form. Manuscripts of the Koran, including one dating from the 16th century, are preserved here. Its minaret is over 40 m high and the building is decorated with softly colored paintings. It is said that the pasha had two oxen tied to a cart and driven away to draw the foundation lines of the mosque.
