PASHA MOSQUE (PAŠINA DŽAMIJA - ЏАМИЈА ПАШИНА)
Located near the "Little Beach" and the ramparts of the old city, this mosque, erected in 1719 by Klič Alija of Constantinople, is the oldest in the city and bears witness to past Ottoman occupation. It can be seen in the Rana district, around 100 meters from the Sailors' Mosque, near the waterfront. It was built in 1719, shortly after an attack on Ulcinj by the Republic of Venice. Fun fact: it incorporates materials from captured Venetian ships to finance and build the edifice, in homage to Ottoman admiral Kılıç Ali Paşa, victor of the battle! Modest in size and architecture, it is distinguished from the country's other mosques by the presence of a small hammam, supplied with water by stone canals from the Pasha fountain - the only one of its kind in Montenegro. It's also special for its minaret, one of the few still standing in the country. The complex also includes a türbe (mausoleum) and a house built by the pasha of Shkodra, Jusuf Causholli. The mosque bears the following inscription on its wall: "Inaugurated with joy and for the good of the people, and will serve the community for many years to come". Indeed, the mosque still welcomes the Muslim faithful today for daily prayers. The khutbah (Friday sermon) is delivered in Arabic (the religious language) and Albanian (the language of Montenegrin Muslims).

Amusant d'entendre l'appel du muezzlin au milieu des bars voisins qui déversent leur musique " décadente" !
