The island is home to a 15th-century monastery of the same name, built with defensive towers. During Ottoman attacks, the monks had to defend themselves at a time when no authority had the power to do so. The church of Sainte-Mère-de-Dieu was also built here, between 1404 and 1417. It features wall frescoes typical of medieval Serbian Orthodox art. A few remains of the former iconostasis have been preserved. Like Kom Island, the monastery and site can be visited on boat trips from Virpazar.
