independence Square (Trg Nezavisnosti) is the vibrant heart of Podgorica. Right in the heart of the Nova Varoš district, it has a Soviet look, peeled back over 5,000 m². Formerly known as Ivan Milutinović Square, it was redeveloped in 2006, following the country's independence, to become a pedestrian area. A large central fountain has been added to its appearance, which nevertheless remains somewhat desolate. Surrounded by buildings such as the Radosav Ljumović Municipal Library and the National Art Gallery, the square is enlivened by small stalls.
