Konttaniemi Reindeer Farm is a family-owned business located along the picturesque Ounasjoki River, just seven kilometers from Rovaniemi. It has a special atmosphere with the seasonal changes specific to the Arctic Circle. Here you will learn about reindeer husbandry, its history and its adaptation to modern life. You will also enjoy the various activities offered, such as a safari or a short walk with these robust animals. Open by reservation only, requests must be made at least the day before by 3pm. If you wish to come in group, you can send a request by e-mail. A beautiful address to discover.

The cons : poor signage. After parking on the main road, we had to guess how to get to the actual farm by following other groups. When arriving on site and close to the reindeer, I was first mistaken for being the leader of the group. Once I clarified that I was a “walk-in” trying my luck to visit the farm, I was rudely turned down, explained that I shouldn’t touch the reindeer, and that I had no right to be in that location without a booking. Staff added that no booking was available for several weeks anyways.
