OFFICE DE TOURISME
Jakobstad, located on the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia in Western Finland, is a beautiful, historic town. Founded in 1652 by Countess Ebba Brahe, it owes its name to her late husband Jacob de la Gardie. However, the Finnish inhabitants have retained the parish's former name, hence the town's Finnish name, Pietarsaari. Jakobstad is renowned for its maritime history and shipbuilding tradition. It's also a town of parks and gardens, with a charming atmosphere. Visitors can discover many interesting museums and enjoy the outdoor activities offered by its proximity to the sea. Jakobstad also offers a wide variety of restaurants and cafés, as well as local boutiques for shopping. Tourists can enquire at the Tourist Office for further information on the town's attractions and events.
