Monuments to visit

In the early 1900s a steamboat was (still) shipwrecked in the Gulf of Finland. The decision was made to build a lighthouse under the leadership of the architect Florentin Granholm. It is one of the most beautiful lighthouses in Finland and the highest in the Nordic countries - 52 m - with a breathtaking view, which was the subject of a long dispute between the Finns and the Soviets during the Continuation War. You can even sleep in a small hotel on the island. Pleasant cruise off Hanko, on the southernmost waters of the country.

It was a wide natural harbour, where ships came to shelter during storms and shipped drinking water. Sailors carved their names on the rocks with their knives and even little stories: there are more than 640 of them.
