RUNEBERG HOUSE
Empire-style house with a beautiful Fredrika garden adjoining, which blooms with roses in summer, a must-see place to visit
The family of poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg moved into this Empire-style house. On the poet's death, the Finnish state bought the house: the furnishings remain intact and evoke the daily life of the poet and his contemporaries in the early 19th century. The beautiful adjoining Fredrika garden (his wife's first name) is filled with flowers and roses in summer. Today, Runeberg is celebrated across the country on February 5, when everyone can enjoy the famous Runerberg cakes his wife used to bake for him: a real treat!
