170 000 inhabitants. Located in the east of the Crimea, this city is one of the oldest on the peninsula. Founded by the Milésiens in the th century BC, under the name Panticapée, the capital of the kings of the Bosphorus in the fourth century BC, it was an important seaport. It was invaded by the Byzantine, the Turks and the Tatars, occupied by the Russians in 1774, taken by the Franco-British forces in 1855 and occupied by the Germans in 1941… Come to Kerch not for the beach (quite polluted) but to visit its museums and archaeological sites. Unlike other Crimean cities, Kerch is very little tourist and has a charming border town charm. Russia is right on the other side of the isthmus.
