This enormous kitsch palace dominates the eastern part of the modern city. It's now a hotel (expensive and not great).
The eastern part of the new town is dominated by a huge, kitschy, white neoclassical building with a vast dome over 40 metres high. This is the former University of Berat (Universiteti i Beratit), a private institution founded in 2010 and closed two years later due to massive sales of fake diplomas. Since 2020, the building has housed the Hotel Colombo, whose quality of service is disappointing despite its high rates.
