MARCHÉ BYZANTIN
This archaeological site, visible from the street, houses the remains of a macellum, a market for victuals created in the early century.
This archaeological site (Tregu Byzantine) lies 100 m north-west of Plaça Liria. Surrounded by unattractive buildings and poorly promoted, it's worth a look in passing. This is a macellum, a market for victuals created in the early 6th century during the reign of the Byzantine emperor Anastasius I (491-518), who was born in Dyrrachium around 430. Part of its circular white marble portico (40 m in diameter) has been preserved. Next door, behind the Palace of Culture, the remains of the Roman baths (1st century AD) can also be seen.
