Museum and exhibition space in the former bunker designed to house Enver Hoxha and his entourage, 5 km northeast of the city center.

Opened in 2016, this museum combines a historical exhibition with contemporary art installations. What makes it interesting is that it is located in the former secret bunker, which was designed to house Enver Hoxha and his entourage in the event of war. Completed in 1978, the underground complex comprised 106 rooms spread over five levels. One complete floor (almost 3,000m2) is open to visitors and managed by the Qendra Ura ("Bridge Center") cultural association. Among the 24 rooms are some original installations, including the dictator's bedroom. The dictator never slept here, but twice took part in exercises. Note that it's his voice that can be heard by picking up the telephone receiver in his office. The historical exhibition looks back at Albania's history since the Italian invasion of 1939, with a particular focus on the Communist period, from the country's modernization to the regime's crimes and the construction of over 750,000 bunkers across Albania between 1975 and 1983. The rest of the rooms feature contemporary works of art, notably in the impressive Great Hall, which must have served as a meeting place for apparatchiks. You can combine your visit here with one to Mount Dajti National Park, as the departure station for the Dajti Ekspres cable car is located almost next door. Both are very close to the terminus of the blue bus line 11 (Qendër-Porcelani), which departs from the Clock Tower (next to Skanderbeg Square).
