The Iron Dog is the world's longest and toughest snowmobile (snowmobile) race, covering over 2,000 miles of off-road terrain over 8-9 days in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness in the dead of winter. The start is in mid-February in Big Lake. The Pro class candidates cross the mountain range to the Yukon River, then reach the Bering Sea coast, before passing through Koyuk and Kotzebue via the Red Dog Loop, then Nome before returning to Big Lake.
