The Cristo Obrero y Nuestra Señora de Lourdes Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021, is an innovative creation by architect Eladio Dieste, built between 1958 and 1960. The only one of its kind in South America without beams or concrete, it houses a golden statue of Christ in wood carved by Eduardo Diaz Yepes. The Sagrado Corazón church, located on Avenida Artigas y Roger Balet, belongs to the same parish and is open to the public, although less interesting.
