The Takashimaya store was founded in 1831. Before becoming a large shopping centre, it specialized in kimonos, and still has a fine selection of them. In 2018, the original building in Nihombashi was renovated and a new wing was added. Shops, cafes, restaurants, leisure facilities such as the Pokemon center and café extend over approximately 66,000 square meters. Activities related to Japanese traditions as well as exhibitions on a wide variety of themes are regularly held there, which are often very interesting.
