The Holy Resurrection Cathedral is the seat of the Orthodox Church of Tokyo. It dates from 1891 and was designed by Josiah Conder, the English architect who rebuilt part of the center of Tokyo. The dome, destroyed during the earthquake of 1923, was redesigned by the architect Shinito Okada. It presents a revisited Byzantine style easily recognizable. It is also nicknamed Nikolai-do cathedral, in memory of the Russian archbishop Saint Nikolai.
