Located 31 km north of Swakopmund, this small village is inhabited only part of the year by fishermen. The fog is often thick and the atmosphere is both phantasmagorical and icy. The largest lichen field in the world is located in this hamlet. This large orange area, easily visible from the road, is mainly composed of a rare lichen, Tripo schists hereroensis. Four other main types of lichen occur in the Namib Desert(Teloschistes capensis, the species Xanthoparmelia, Santessonia hereroensis and Xanttomaculina convoluta) and live thanks to the humidity of the fog
