This village, called "the ghost village", has restricted access as it is the gateway to the diamond mining area. The Kolmanskop mine operated from 1908 to 1938. The old houses of the first diamond miners from Germany are still clinging to the dunes, which are slowly burying them. The houses are more or less well preserved. The other houses are finally simply invaded by the sand. During its glory period, after the discovery of the large diamond mine, champagne was imported directly from Reims and the city was adorned with a casino, a theater and luxurious villas. The closing of the mine put an end to this golden age and the lack of water made the last inhabitants flee.
