Elizabeth Bay is the second ghost town near Lüderitz, built after Kolmanskop was abandoned 12 km to the north. The town was in operation between 1911 and 1948 with an interruption between 1926 and 1935, and was abandoned after World War II. Reopened in 1991, it can only be visited through certain tour operators and only on weekdays from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. Here, too, you will discover the splendid facilities intended for German operators: a casino and gambling hall facing the ocean, while black workers were forced to cram into unhealthy, guarded dormitories.
