Created in 1838, it is one of the oldest and most important Muslim cemeteries in Algiers. The word kettar means "distillery". Its name refers to the bridja, a funerary monument dating from the Ottoman era where jasmine bouquets were once distilled. Among the 65,000 graves in the cemetery are those of many Algerian personalities such as the masters of châabi El Hadj El-Anka, Dahmane El Harrachi, El Hadj M'Rizez, the singer Fadela D'Ziria, the actor Rouiched, the wife of Frantz Fanon ...
