Inaugurated in 2011, the Algiers metro has just one line in operation, but it's under constant development. Extensions of this line to El Harrach, Place des Martyrs and Aïn Naâdja were completed and inaugurated in 2018. The metro passes through central Algiers, so it's now possible to cross the whole of Algiers by metro alone, which is good news when you consider the city's traffic jams. The network is set to be further extended with two additional lines (Grande Poste - Dar El Beïda and Hussein Dey - Dely Brahim).
