PLACE DU RONDEAU
This is the "Quadruvium" (crossroads in Latin) where Sigismund (king of the Burgundians) was crowned and to which the town owes its name. The square's name derives from its circular shape and its function as a crossroads between two major thoroughfares. It was a popular meeting place for the Carougeois and Savoyards, who exchanged ideas in a convivial atmosphere. The Nine Communes réunies monument, by Rodin pupil James Vibert, dates from 1925, and its 11 female figures celebrate the canton's union with Geneva.
